I joined Burges Salmon as a Trainee Solicitor in 2008. Having studied in Bristol as an undergraduate I worked in London for a spell. Though I enjoyed the City, I missed Bristol, not least for its easy access to the coast and hills of the south west and south Wales. In short, my time away confirmed my resolve to return. So, I focussed my search for training contracts on Bristol. Burges Salmon came up time and again as the Bristol law firm of choice. I completed my studies in Nottingham and commenced my training in August 2008.
I finished my training contract with a four month secondment to a major commercial client; a great experience which gave me a running jump into qualification in the firm's Commercial department. As the department is multi-specialty, so too is my workload. In the six months since I qualified, I have worked on a major Project, provided ad hoc advice to several clients in the rail sector and undertaken work of a more general commercial nature. The breadth of work and mixture of individuals I work with make my job both interesting and challenging on a daily basis.
Bristol is the UK's first cycling city so as for commuting, I have recently taken advantage of the bike to work scheme. The office facilities for cyclists are fantastic and I get my daily dose of exercise for free!
At weekends Bristol is a great place for friends to visit. Throughout the summer there are events on most weekends. The Old Vic theatre and St George's concert venue provide top quality entertainment and there is a huge range of bars and restaurants to enjoy.
My friends in the City are often jealous of my lifestyle. As I say to them, there's nothing to be jealous of; anyone can move here, it's simply a choice.
