Knowledge and Information Services

At Burges Salmon we know that effective management of legal knowledge is crucial for the delivery of a quality professional service. Getting the right information to our lawyers when they need it is a priority for the Knowledge and Information Services team (KIS).

Burges Salmon has recently joined blue chip organisations such as BAE Systems and ABN AMRO in selecting a powerful concept search KM System, based on market leading software Autonomy, for its enterprise search and knowledge management solutions. This enables our lawyers to access their best practice documents, standard forms, methodologies and client/market-specific information as well as online resources including Westlaw, LNB, Lawtel and PLC via a single knowledge portal, ensuring that they can access all the materials they need as quickly as possible either working in the office or working remotely.  Factiva and other specialist legal and business information services are also available to the lawyers via our Information Services professionals.  Our hard copy library collection (which is indexed through the one-stop search KM System) includes textbooks, law report series and current awareness journal titles supporting all practice areas of the firm.

Burges Salmon's KIS team comprises a Director of Development and Know How, a Head of Knowledge Management, a Head of Knowledge and Information Services, three central library/IS staff and two firm-wide knowledge administrators, who are managed in close co-operation with fifteen Professional Support Lawyers (PSLs), backed up by departmental/unit KM Partners. All of these groups are dedicated to providing a professional support service and to ensuring that our lawyers gain the maximum value from BS resources.
