Open days and vacation placements
Open Days
Open Days are designed to give you a feel for what life as a trainee is like at Burges Salmon. Open Days also give us a chance to get to know you and we choose up to 40 people from Open Days to attend a Vacation Placement in the summer. Open Days are held in Bristol and comprise of a series of activities including presentations from lawyers on their practice areas, case studies of current trainees, lunch and a tour of the office. Candidates are also given a short, informal interview with a partner and the trainees run a group negotiation exercise. To attend an Open Day, you will need to submit an application form.
Vacation Placements
Our summer Vacation placements are highly recommended to anyone wishing to pursue a career as a solicitor. During your two week placement you will visit two departments of your choice supervised by a partner or senior solicitor and you will have the opportunity to attend court visits and client meetings. Our trainees run skills training sessions and this is coupled with a whole host of sports and social events.

Our next Open Days will be taking place on Monday 20 and Friday 24 February 2012.
2012 Vacation Placements will take place on the following dates:
Monday 18 June - Friday 29 June
Monday 2 July - Friday 13 July
Monday 16 July - Friday 27 July
Monday 30 July - Friday 10 August
Who can apply?
We accept applications for Open Days and Vacation Placements from penultimate year law students; final year law and non-law students; graduates and those considering a change of career.
How to apply and dates
Applications will re-open on 1 October 2011. The application deadline for Open Day/Vacation Placements is 31 January 2012 and the deadline for Training Contract applications is 31 July 2012.
