Taking the step from being a trainee to a newly qualified solicitor could have been a daunting process, but after two years of high quality training and preparation, I know I’ve emerged ready to meet the challenges of being a qualified solicitor.
During the training contract, I was encouraged to take early responsibility and to get ‘stuck in’. This involved anything from negotiating the terms of a commercial lease to going to a black tie client event in London. All of this meant that on qualification, I felt confident and ready for the road ahead.
The Corporate department is nationally recognised, and this is reflected in the breadth and quality of work in the department. As newly qualified solicitors, the department is keen for us to be involved in as broad a range of work as possible, which has meant I have been involved in acquisitions, group re-organisations and joint venture work over the last couple of months, and I have worked for clients such as Nationwide Building Society and Hargreaves Lansdown Plc.
Bristol is an amazing city to live in, with a diverse culture and lots of opportunities for sports and recreation. From playing touch rugby for the firm to meeting colleagues for cocktails after work, there’s always something to get involved in. This, combined with the quality of work and breadth of opportunity at Burges Salmon, means that being a newly qualified solicitor has been an exciting time.
