Personal Development and Support
All our trainees complete the in-house checklist throughout the training contract. The checklist is designed to cover core areas of work in each of the units and departments and is used as a basis for the appraisal which takes place at the end of each four month seat. Completed electronically, it enables trainee supervisors and anyone delegating work to the trainee to add their comments. In addition, each trainee is encouraged to:
- Analyse his/her performance; and
- Identify areas for improvement and development.
The appraisal is based on the skills set out in the checklist and the trainee's performance is graded accordingly. During the appraisal, objectives are set for the following four months and trainees are encouraged to monitor their development. Any areas in need of improvement are highlighted and appropriate training is provided to ensure the successful development of each trainee.
In addition to the Training Partner, we have a system of Trainee Solicitor Principals. Each trainee is allocated his or her own Principal who is a partner whose role is that of mentor. All Principals are encouraged to meet regularly with their trainees and to give advice and guidance on an individual's career or more general wellbeing.
