Advising the Racecourse Association Limited on commercial, property and contentious matters. Most recently, we acted for the Association in defending a £360 million claim against it from Premier Telesports. The claim revolved around the right to transmit live pictures of UK horse racing in Russia and the Baltic states.
GBR Challenge for the America's Cup
Acting for GBR Challenge for the America's Cup during their 2001-2003 Campaign and as Exclusive Supplier of Legal Services during the 2003-2007 Campaign in relation to all legal matters surrounding their business including on sponsorship agreements, sponsorship agency arrangements, disputes over sponsorship fees, yacht charter agreements, corporate governance, employment and immigration issues regulatory matters, direct marketing.
Orange Personal Communications Services
Advising Orange Personal Communications Services in drafting and negotiating sponsorship and media rights contracts relating to Orange's sponsorship of the European Rugby Cup (Heineken Cup) and the Parker Pen Shield.
English Cricket Board ('ECB')
Advising on the licensing of a unique cricket boundary rope to the English Cricket Board ('ECB') that enables official sponsors to place their logos on the boundary rope. The rope is now widely used by the' ECB' and has recently featured in the Ashes series.
Rugby Football Union (RFU)
Acting for the Rugby Football Union (RFU) and Nike in their trademark infringement action relating to protection of the English Red Rose device as a trademark.
Gunn & Moore
Acting for Gunn & Moore in its sponsorship of international cricket players, including Marcus Trescothick, Michael Vaughan, Herselle Gibbs, Stephen Fleming and Stuart Broad.
Virgin Mobile
Acting for Virgin Mobile in its sponsorship of the Yamaha R6 Superbike Cup.
Leading Rugby Union Clubs
Acting for one of the country's leading Rugby Union Clubs, undertaking instructions in relation to drafting of sponsorship agreements including shirt sponsors as well as advising the Club on general commercial, employment and immigration matters.
National Village Cricket Competition
Partner, Nigel Popplewell is a former first class cricketer with Somerset County Cricket Club. Nigel now advises on corporate taxation issues relating to various sporting events. In addition the firm has also advised cricket clubs in relation to the National Village Cricket Competition.
