Colin joined Burges Salmon in March 1999 from a leading regional law firm in Western Australia. He re-qualified as a Solicitor in England and Wales in January 2000.

Colin is recommended in the Banking Finance (South West) section of Chambers UK 2009 for his "great technical knowledge" and is head of Burges Salmon's highly regarded Real Estate Insolvency Team.
Colin's work often involves advising on security structures for lenders when transactions are driven by minimisation schemes, both on-shore and off. Recent examples of work include:
- acting for the lender on a £53m development facility in relation to a forward funded hotel and residential housing development in Central Bristol
- drafting suites of security documents and instructions to external solicitors for three lenders breaking into commercial property based lending
- acting on a syndicatable loan of £117.6m secured against a portfolio of 11 serviced office centres
- acting for the Administrators on the sale of a portfolio of investment properties, including properties held in Jersey Property Unit Trusts
- acting for a building society in providing advice on recoveries options and protocols for fixed charge receivers appointments
