Tom joined Burges Salmon in 1995. He became a partner in the Tax and Trusts department in 2004. He is also a qualified chartered surveyor. He specialises in the following practice areas:

- Advising a large number of private clients on trust restructuring following the Finance Act 2006 changes to inheritance tax
- Instructed by a large Midlands estate to act for the trustees of the various trusts and family generally, including complicated structural issues
- Advising the owners of a sizeable residential development site in the South of England on tax planning
- Acting as a consultant another firm of solicitors in advising on the availability of Agricultural Property Relief on a farmhouse
- Restructuring a family farming partnership to create separate investment and trading businesses.
