Community Interest Companies

We have registered several Community Interest Companies (CICs) since the introduction of this new form of company for social enterprise and community projects in 2005.

These include:

  • a community benefit fund for a wind farm project
  • a community centre
  • a management company for a new urban village
  • a secondary education initiative for Bristol
  • food workshops and incubator units for new businesses
  • CICs to help victims of abuse or people with disabilities

Community Interest Companies are particularly suitable for enterprises which want to benefit the community but which do not qualify for charitable status or do not want to be subject to the more burdensome regulatory regime applicable to charities.

We work closely with the CIC Regulator.
