Farm Business Structures

This specialist area of law has been central to our practice in the farming and land sector for over 30 years. Farming partnership disputes are invariably complex, involving the multi-layers of partnership and property law as well as tax and subsidies.

Partner William Neville leads this area on the contentious side.  The focus is upon dispute resolution, avoiding litigation in relation to what are often family disputes with substantial tax implications.  Arbitrations and mediations are often appropriate but where disputes have resulted in litigation, the firm has been involved in a number of important cases. a recent example being Drake v Harvey and others.

We advise on the formation and restructure of partnerships and on alternative business structures for rural businesses, including co-operatives. Tom Hewitt leads on the advisory side of farm business structures.
