Gwen trained at Denton Wilde Sapte, qualifying into their Tokyo Office in 2001. Following a year on secondment to the Legal Department of Itochu Corporation, a major Japanese general trading company, where she worked on a wide range of energy, trading and general commercial matters, she joined Freshfields' Tokyo Office in 2002. At Freshfields she was involved in a range of private M&A matters, joint ventures, and other corporate and commercial transactions, and spent a further 4 months on secondment to Lehman Brothers in Tokyo. She joined Burges Salmon in 2005.

Her relevant experience includes:
Advising a German sporting goods manufacturer on the acquisition of the assets of its Japanese distributor, and the establishment of its own Japanese distribution subsidiary
Advising a US executive luggage manufacturer on the establishment of a joint venture with a Japanese luggage manufacturer and a Japanese trading house in order to promote, market and distribute its branded products in Japan
Advising a US children’s television producer on the licensing and distribution of a Japanese version of its programme in Japan
Advising a Japanese client on a Western Australian di-methyl ether project from initial negotiations to appointment of local counsel in native title procedure
Advising Itochu Corporation on its joint venture with an Indonesian mining company for the exploitation of a coal mining licence in Kalimantan, Indonesia
Advising Itochu Corporation on the negotiation and redrafting of LNG sale and purchase agreements entered into with counterparties in the Middle East, North Africa and the U.S.
Advising Itochu Corporation on various stages of a major pipeline project in the Black Sea area, for which Itochu, as a member of a Japanese consortium, supplied linepipe
Advising MOD in connection with the restructuring of its Skynet 5 satellite programme
Advising Mitsui & Co UK plc on the adaptation of over 50 standard form documents used by its Japanese headquarters to English law and best practice
Advising a domestic appliance manufacturer on the harmonisation of its European distribution arrangements
Advising a high-reliability electronics manufacturer on the establishment of a single customer interface for several of its group companies
