Emily joined Burges Salmon as a trainee solicitor in September 2001 and qualified as a solicitor in September 2003, specialising in Employment Law. She advises employers and employees in both the public and private sectors on contentious and non-contentious matters.

Emily handles a range of work including:

provision of and advice on contractual and policy documentation
negotiation of severance packages and compromise agreements
advising on reorganisations and restructuring
advising on collective and trade union issues
advising on employment aspects of both corporate and commercial transactions, including advising on various aspects, both legal and practical, of the Transfer of Undertakings (Protection of Employment) Regulations 1981/ 2006 (TUPE)
advising on general employment matters including unfair dismissal; wrongful dismissal; redundancy; disciplinary matters (including misconduct and poor performance); discrimination; and ill-health
presenting training, including seminars and workshops on various aspects of employment law to clients
dealing with tribunals and conducting tribunal advocacy (both at employment tribunal and employment appeal tribunal level)

Emily also completed a four month secondment at Computershare Investor Services PLC in 2003, assisting the in-house legal team with a variety of commercial and employment issues.
