David leads the Finance Litigation Practice. He advises many commercial and banking clients on contentious matters arising in the financial sector, including wide experience of complex fraud cases. He also advises many corporate clients on a wide range of domestic and international disputes and strategic issues in other commercial sectors, including transport (aviation and motor) projects, international supply and distribution, manufacturing and industry, food and drink and import/export.

Examples of his work include:

Providing advice on numerous issues flowing from the collapse of Enron for a major German Bank involved in committed trade finance facilities.
Leading fraud advice to a major building society in connection with a substantial property-based fraud involving fraud investigations, asset recovery, injunctions, liaising with SFO and other authorities and strategic advice.
Client Partner for Coca-Cola HBC, advising them on a range of European contentious and strategic issues.
Representing a major European bank in a series of disputes arising from various defective US$, Euro and DM derivative trades.
Representing the largest Swedish bank for many years on a whole range of UK corporate lending, security, fraud, investment management and negligence cases.
Advising on a series of international disputes and strategic situations arising from oil, gas, chemical and other projects in Iraq, Iran, Libya, Kazakhstan and other oil producing countries.
Acting on numerous financial frauds for three major UK clearing banks involving emergency freezing and search Orders, the investigation and prosecution of the fraud claims and asset recovery.
Wide experience of aviation and aviation finance disputes, including representing major European and US financial institutions and world-wide airlines/manufacturers in aircraft repossession cases.
Defending group claims and investigations arising from the pensions misselling and FSA split capital investigation.
Acting on numerous corporate fraud situations, including employee fraud, theft and/or misuse of confidential information by competitors and/or former employees, and external attack.
Acting in a series of cases arising from corporate acquisitions/disposals, including breach of warranty claims, negligent misstatement and misrepresentation, due diligence issues, venture capital financing disputes and resolving issues faced by incoming management.

He has considerable trial experience and appears as an advocate in both the High Court and before other tribunals. He is also experienced in mediation and other ADR techniques. David spent over nine years at Clifford Chance in London and Tokyo before joining Burges Salmon.

He also spent time with the Midland Bank/HSBC in-house team and has worked on the Citicorp trading floor.
