Carol joined Burges Salmon in May 1996 as a member of the Commercial Property Unit. Carol is also qualified as a solicitor in Scotland and previously worked in a large firm in Glasgow for 5 years.

Carol is experienced in all areas of commercial property work, concentrating on the following main practice areas:

acquisition/disposal of portfolios and individual commercial properties including sale and leaseback arrangements, and providing strategic advice to occupiers of commercial properties
advising on commercial landlord and tenant issues
advising on the property aspects of PFI/PPP transactions
advising on Scottish property transactions
advising on rail property issues for a number of rail companies including the transfers of rail franchises, negotiating station and light maintenance depot leases and sublease arrangements, landlord and tenant issues in respect of station retail occupations and advising on station and depot change procedures and closure applications

Recent projects have included:

advising MOD on all property aspects of the Campus Integrator project at Shrivenham, the Defence Sixth Form College project, on Scottish property law aspects in relation to MOD Astute Class Training Services PFI and English property law issues on MOD Skynet 5 PFI
the redevelopment of light maintenance depots as part of a new trains project for the Transpennine franchise
the mobilisation of the First ScotRail franchise comprising 336 stations and 8 depots in Scotland
the transfer of the First Great Western Link franchise and the handback of the Northern Rail franchise
the refinancing of English Welsh & Scottish Railway's property portfolio
