Richard graduated from Bristol University with a First class degree in law and completed the Legal Practice Course in Nottingham with Distinction. He joined Burges Salmon in September 1997 and became a Partner in May 2006.
Richard's recent work includes:

advising Western Power Distribution on all of its pension arrangements including the WPD Group of the Electricity Supply Pension Scheme (assets in excess of £1 billion) |

advising the Trustees of the Chanel Limited Pension Plan on documentation issues |

advising the Trustees of the Renishaw Pension Plan in relation to a closure to defined benefit accrual and contingent asset agreements |

advising in relation to establishing a CARE section for the GSL Pension Scheme |

advising FirstGroup in relation to its participation in the Local Government Pension Scheme |

handling the pensions aspects of PFI/PPP transactions including the setting up of broadly comparable pension schemes for several employers including Reliance Security Group plc |

advice on the funding aspects of the Pensions Act 2004 |

advice on the Finance Act 2004 and A Day amendments |

advising in relation to age discrimination |

establishing the full range of share incentive arrangements including many EMI schemes, CSOPs, restricted share plans, and advising on a SIP for Ronseal. |
Richard is a full member of the Association of Pension Lawyers and holds the Certificate in Pensions Law from the University of Bristol. He regularly speaks at client seminars and bespoke training sessions on pensions and incentives matters. Richard is an adviser with The Pensions Advisory Service (TPAS), and a member of the Share Plan Lawyers group.
