Adrian is a full-time arbitrator and mediator. A former Head of the Commercial Disputes Department, he is now Head of ADR services. He is a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators. He is a CEDR–Solve Mediator, an ADR Group Accredited Mediator, a member of the Court of Appeal Mediation Panel and on the panel of many other providers such as the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators. Since joining Burges Salmon in 1982 from Linklaters Adrian has advised commercial clients in many sectors on complex disputes often of high value and/or considerable significance. His disputes frequently involve cross-border issues or a foreign element. He is very experienced in working with foreign lawyers and in other jurisdictions such as Australia, Canada, USA and many mainland European countries. He has extensive experience in negotiating settlements.

Adrian's arbitration work has exposed him to dealing with arbitration issues in a wide range of contracts in many industry sectors (e.g. transport, defence, logistics, construction and engineering, international trade). The disputes have been both domestic and international.

A mediator of almost 10 years experience, Adrian is now much in demand as a mediator throughout the UK in a wide range of disputes. He is held in high regard because of his reputation for rigorous analysis combined with a user friendly, pragmatic commercial approach resulting in a high settlement rate and many repeat referrals. Recent legal directories recommend him with phrases such as "enjoying a stellar reputation. High quality modern thinker" and "realistic style that promotes a resolution is the key to his success in this field for this highly effective practitioner". He has mediated an enormous range of commercial disputes, and has particular experience of multi-party disputes. Recent examples include:

Construction and engineering;
Procurement disputes (including public procurement);
Transport and logistics;
Professional negligence;
Partnership/Board/Shareholder disputes;
Software design and development;
Trust and property ownership disputes.
