Our Islamic Finance Unit draws in expertise from various other practice areas including property, banking, corporate finance, tax and trust, pensions and insurance.
Recent work in Shariah compliant real estate finance and investment includes:
- developing a Shariah compliant commercial property finance products for Bristol & West Property Finance
- restructuring a land holding in France including structure lending for tax and Shariah purposes
- Shariah compliant refinancing of a hospital in Kent for ABC International Bank Plc
- acting for HSBC Bank Plc on a review of Shariah compliant security documentation.
Other key areas include:
- General banking and finance - including the development of Shariah compliant trade finance documentation for Islamic Bank of Britain Plc
- Trusts & pensions - we have prepared over 300 Shariah "aware" offshore trusts.
We have identified Takaful (Islamic insurance), corporate finance and Sukuk (Islamic securitisation) as important areas for the industry and thus for our Shariah practice. We have invested effort and resources to ensure that we now have the capability to be able to offer expert and comprehensive advice in these fields.
