The cross-departmental Sports practice covers a wide range of specialisms, including commercial; technology, media and communications, commercial litigation and dispute resolution; corporate and financial; employment; environmental litigation; pensions; property litigation; property and planning issues; sponsorship, branding and marketing; stadia and regulatory issues; and tax.
In addition to strengthening and consolidating its relationship with its existing clients, the Sports practice's ability to combine its legal expertise with extensive individual knowledge and experience of the sporting industry and its governing bodies has continued to attract many high profile sports industry clients to Burges Salmon. Members of the practice continue to be personally involved in the sporting arena in an individual capacity, many having obtained representative honours at club, regional, national and international level. This enables the practice to combine legal expertise with a sound working knowledge of the specific issues faced by its clients through sport specific regulatory frameworks and in their particular sporting community.
The Sports practice advises a diverse array of clubs and organisations, sports media companies, individual and corporate owners of venues, stadia and events, providers of services to the sporting industry, and participants and patrons of the profession. It is able to meet clients' needs in all aspects of their professional legal requirements, and prides itself on an ability to offer practical, commercial advice at all times.
Members of the Practice have lectured the European Sponsorship Association (ESA) and UK Sport on sports sponsorship law and continue to provide updates on relevant legal issues for clients. They also contribute to a number of legal and sporting publications.
