Give and Gain 2009

A team of 12 from Burges Salmon were involved in Give and Gain Day 2009, organised by Business in the Community. The teacher in charge of organising the day at the school - David Hewett Year 2 Teacher, St Nicholas of Tolentine R.C. Primary School, Easton - wrote:

"On Friday 5th June a team of determined Burges Salmon employees turned up to our school and transformed a neglected jungle, surrounded by battered fences, into a beautiful butterfly garden. I was so impressed with the quality of the work that was carried out; plans were followed really accurately and then embellished with superb finishing touches, which reflected the teams creativity and pride in their work. It was clear that the team had put a lot of effort into researching the plants, donating things from their own gardens and fundraising for extras.

During the day, groups of excited children came to look at the project and couldn't help themselves from joining in. They couldn't believe how many people had come together to make something special for them! Since the garden has been completed, it has had lots of use. It is big enough to take a whole class, so it is a valuable teaching resource for science and art lessons, but most importantly, it is a peaceful place of beauty for the children to explore. A large percentage of children at our school live in flats and don't have any access to a garden. The garden is also being used outside of school hours by children in the gardening club, who make sure that your lovely flowers get watered, whilst planting more things of their own.

We can't thank you enough for achieving so much in one day, and I hope that the experience was a rewarding team-building exercise for everybody that took part. Feel free to pop in and see how the garden is getting along whenever you like."
